Polypropylene is a material of wide diffusion, with relatively good characteristics of surface hardness and abrasion resistance. Resistance to impact is among the highest although at low temperatures it becomes very fragile. It does not absorb moisture, that's why it has good dimensional stability.
The most important quality of polypropylene is its excellent chemical resistance to organic reagents and acids. For this reason, polypropylene is irreplaceable in electroplating, petroleum and chemical plants in general to obtain valves, pumps, fittings and also mechanical parts that are not exposed to high stress.
One should also consider low specific gravity of polypropylene which increases substantially the economic character compared to other materials. In particular, at equal volume, it weighs 50% less than PVC.
When it is colorless, it can be used for all food uses, for parts in contact with foodstuffs we prefer Polyethylene HD.
